NROCRC's Income Tax Clinic

Welcome to our 2023 Income Tax Program

 

This program helps individuals living in the NROCRC catchment area who have a modest income and a simple tax situation submit their tax returns at no cost.

To participate in the NROCRC tax program follow these steps:

 

1. Check your Eligibility

 

Eligibility for a CRA Volunteer Income Tax Clinic

Do you have a low income? (under $35,000 as an individual, up to $45,000 for 2 people)

Do you have a simple tax return?

 

If you answered no to either of these questions, you are not eligible for the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program

 

Eligibility for the NROCRC CVITP clinics

Were you a resident of Nepean, Rideau or Osgoode on December 31, 2023?

Are you looking to have your 2023 tax return completed?

 

If you answered no to any of these questions, you are not eligible to have your taxes done by NROCRC this year. You are, however, still eligible to get your taxes done for free at other CVITP clinics. Information on other CVITP clinics near you may be found by entering "CVITP income tax clinics" into Google search. Click on  "Free tax clinics" and then on "Find a tax clinic in your area".

 

2. Contact NROCRC

Contact NROCRC by sending an email to tax@nrocrc.org , providing your phone number and indicating that you wish to have a tax clinic appointment or by calling (613) 596 5626 extension 303 and leaving a message with your name and a phone number, stating that you wish to book an appointment. Please repeat your phone number to ensure we get it right.

 

3. Wait For Us to Contact You

Please note that we may take a few days to get back to schedule an appointment.

Please also note that we will call you from a phone that does not have caller ID. You will need to answer the call. We will call 3 times and on the 3rd call will leave a message that we are trying to reach you. If you don’t have a message box, then we cannot leave a message. If you don’t get a return call within 7 day’s please call back and leave another message.

 

4. Gather These Documents.

  • Photo identification (Government issued)
  • SIN or Individual Tax Number (ITN) if you don’t have a SIN
  • Income information slips from 2023 as appropriate to your situation:
    • T4 
    • T4A (Bursaries or Scholarships), T4A(OAS), T4A(CPP), T4P, T4RSP,
    • T4RIF, T4E (Employment insurance)
    • T5007 (WSB/OW/ODSP)
    • T5008,
    • T3, T5, Bank Statements (for any RSP, GIC), and any other interest received
    • Foreign Income (US pension)
  • Expense receipts (as applicable)
    • Ontario Vacation Receipts
    • Up to $10,000 in receipts for enduring home safety renovations (if you have someone over the age of 65 living with you)
    • Spousal and/or Child Support Receipts
    • Rent receipts if you are not renting from Ottawa Community Housing
    • Property tax receipts
    • Medical expenses (if you have paid taxes), including health plan premiums
    • RRSP contribution receipts
    • Union or membership dues paid
    • OCTranspo or ParaTranspo expenses for those aged 65 or older
    • Moving expenses (if you moved at least 40 km closer to your place of work)
    • Charitable donation receipts
    • Newspaper subscription receipt
    • Daycare expense receipts
    • T2202A (if you paid tuition for post-secondary studies)

 

  • It is not mandatory, but can be helpful to the volunteer if you also bring: your prior year (2022) tax return & notice of assessment from CRA

 

5. Notify us if you must cancel/reschedule your appointment/

Call (613) 596 5626 extension 303 and leave a message with your name and a phone number, or e-mail tax@nrocrc.org stating that you wish to cancel or re-book an appointment.
